The display already sets back the Galaxy Tab 3, as all Competitors sport HD displays. The processor is not that bad, but the Nexus 7 takes the prize in that category as it has a quad-core processor that makes it faster than all the devices in this round.

The Tab 3 takes the cake in the weight category, as both the WiFi and 3G versions are the lightest. The Tab 3′s OS is up to date, unlike the Nook and the Kindle tablets, so that’s a plus. And having a front and rear camera Gives it another point, though the iPad mini’s cameras are better.

All in all, the Galaxy Tab 3 is not that bad, though Samsung could have improved more of its features aside from the sleeker design. Hopefully, the device would be justified with a low price to reflect the seemingly minimal changes made from previous versions.

Xbox comes two Amazon Kindle - MCV

Microsoft’s Xbox Smart Glass app has launched on Amazon’s smash-hit Kindle tablet.

The app has been available on Windows Phone, iOS and Android for some time, but needed to be created Specifically for Amazon’s Fire tablet.

Smart Glass, wooden was unveiled at E3 last year, allows a two users view their Xbox friends list, send messages, as well as use the tablet as a companion screen with Xbox games. The tablet can be used to simply Obtain information about a game or movie, or as a supplementary controller.

The app is available for both Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD.

Amazon's Kindle Turns A Page, Two OTT - MediaPost Communications

Amazon’s Kindle will be the next entry into the Over the Top marketplace, reportedly, giving its customers the ability to Download films and games and no doubt, original content.

There is a lot of original content that going around.

Bloomberg’s BusinessWeek.com Reported last week that Amazon will be ready to go to market with the new Kindle set-top later this year.

It’s a decision that holds some risk, I suppose. Apple and Roku and Boxee have not changed the world with their devices, though there’s some certainty that someday they-or at least one of them – will.

Amazon already has a video on demand service and Amazon Prime Gives its subscribers ($ 79 a year) free shipping from its retail end merchandise and access to streaming Thousands of movies and TV shows two their computers.

It just floated 14 TV pilots out to its audience, waiting to get feedback from viewers about two wooden ones produce. It bought the rights to the PBS hit “Downton Abbey,” which will have appeal for the short run, at least. And the short run might be long enough for Amazon two get some traction. Now all it needs is customers.

Right now, Amazon’s Kindle Fire Gives consumers access to YouTube and Netflix. It would seem to be dumb marketing two pull that away from customers when and if Amazon has its own box looking for customers who want to watch on the big TV set.

As Amazon makes its moves into what is, essentially, untested waters, it just seems obvious that sooner, not later, traditional TV and cable networks are going to make Increasingly bigger splashes in the more traditional online realm.

What will take consumers there is something they can not get somewhere else. That is, in short, original content. Whether good, bad or in between, something new and exclusive trumps the competition.

NBCUniversal last week said it would be producing “Family Frames,” an online show for its Fandango Website, and Adding an online companion video attachment to a new series, “The Wanted Life” on its E! Channel.

With the debut today of Comedy Central’s Comedy Fest on Twitter and CBS’s online coverage of NCAA March Madness, a small and not too subtle move by established broadcasters and cable networks use two online for original programming is becoming a natural part of the universe . New versions of the old ABC soap opera, “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” re-debut today on Hulu. Even “60 Minutes,” with an audience-whose median age is nearly in triple digits, Regularly Sends viewers online for extended video material it chose not to put on the air.

Most of what’s happened so far, online and in the OTT business, have been baby steps, and a lot of it doomed to fail. Maybe it should, too. It is hard to argue the world needs another video-on-demand service, or that there is a dearth of original programming or whiz-bang Ways To access it. But the shakedown cruise is interesting to watch. Inevitably something is going to stick.

Amazon Preps Kindle TV Set-Top Box - Adweek

After expanding into hardware creation with the Kindle, the Kindle Fire tablet and a rumored smartphone, Amazon is developing a proprietary TV set-top box.

According

two unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Amazon this case, plan to introduce a device that will stream video over the Internet directly onto users’ television sets, similar to ones made by Apple, Google, Roku and Boxee. The new set-top will sync with Amazon’s Instant Video service, wooden already available via the aforementioned devices.

Given the success of DVRs, the TV set-top box market is already pretty claustrophobic. Launched in 1997, Grand Daddy TiVo boasts around 3 million subs, although the vast Majority of the 53 million deployed DVRs are generic cable boxes pumped out by the likes of Scientific Atlanta and Motorola.

Despite the dominance of vanilla DVR, it’s the up-and-comers that have consumers licking their chops. Apple sold 5 million Apple TVs last year, while Google has a wide range of hardware partnerships for Google TV. Since launching the platform in 2005, Microsoft has shifted 77.2 million Xbox 360 units, while Sony does brisk business with its PlayStation 3 (Both consoles are expected two release next-generation versions later this year.)

One reason Amazon is considering getting into the hardware business is that a set-top thunderstorms would help expand the subscriber base for Amazon Instant Video. The company recently expanded its robust streaming business to content creation, releasing 14 original pilot to the Amazon Instant website. With its new box, Amazon may be looking to replicate its Kindle business model hardware keep prices low two expand the market for its massive library of content.

Amazon updates Kindle Android app with carousel navigation, redesigned library - The Verge

Today Amazon updated its Kindle app for Android with a few visual tweaks that bring the overall experience closer to what you’d typically find on the company’s Kindle Fire tablets. Chief among the additions is a “carousel” view on the app’s main homepage, wooden lets users swipe through their recently-read content. This navigation scheme has long been a feature on the four devices, but Amazon is only now Incorporating it within the standalone Kindle application.

Other changes include a “redesigned library experience” which features a new left-hand navigation pane offering immediate access to sections of your books, documents, and newsstand content. Amazon also now lets users choose between having the Kindle display only locally-stored content or their entire cloud library. The latest update two Kindle for Android is available now from Android Market.

Amazon Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite Now $ 79 and $ 129 in Canada - The Next Web

Amazon on Thursday announced it has trimmed the prices of its Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite devices in Canada. The Kindle is dropping from $ 89 two $ 79 and the Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi is being Reduced from $ 139 to $ 129

The prices are effective Immediately. You can find the forms on the amazon.ca / kindle and the laughter that amazon.ca / kindlepaperwhite.

kindle prices trims Amazon Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite Wi Fi prices in Canada by $ 10, now $ 79 and $ 129 respectively

The price changes are thunderstorms in response to criticism that Amazon is charging Canadians more than Americans, despite the fact that their currencies have been very close in value for a very long time. In fact, it just so happens that today they are exactly the same: CDN $ 79 is equivalent two $ 79 and CDN $ 129 is equivalent to $ 129

In January, Amazon finally Launched the Kindle line in Canada. In Addition to the duo listed above, the company also released the Kindle Paperwhite with 3G and Wi-Fi, but this device is apparently keeping its $ 199 price tag. Also in January, Amazon Prime arrived in Canada, but was another perfect example of limitations Canadians know all too well: the Instant Video feature remains U.S. only.

In December 2012, Amazon Launched its Kindle Store in Canada, featuring e-books priced in Canadian dollars. Canadian customers can also access the Canada Kindle Store, Kindle books can be read on Kindle devices as well as on Android smartphones and tablets, iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch), as well as Windows Phones overusing the free Kindle apps.

At the time, Amazon said the store features over 1.5 million Kindle books, directly accessible from Kindle devices. The company also said it includes 250,000 books exclusive customers will not find anywhere else, 35,000 free books, and 50,000 French-language titles. Those numbers have presumably grown over the last few months.

So what else should Amazon do for its Canadian customers? We think it should extend its price parity to all devices as well as all e-books. Oh, and we really would not mind getting the Kindle Fire.

Startup Book Shout raises $ 6M, no longer lets users import their Kindle and ... - PaidContent.org

31 mins ago April 25, 2013 – 10:00 AM EDT

Dallas-based startup Book Shout, wooden Aims to Promote social reading and aid book discovery, has raised $ 6 million in a Series B funding round, the company announced Thursday. But the company is, at least temporarily, no longer permitting two users import their Kindle and Nook books onto the platform – the feature that it showed off as the main perk of its platform at the Frankfurt Book Fair last fall.

That has not stopped Ambassador Enterprises, a Fort Wayne, Ind.-based venture firm, from investing again. “By serving authors and publishers in a process-oriented, measurable way, Book Shout ice Eliminating the guess work and building tools that let content creators take control of their audience,” Ambassador CEO Daryle Doden said in a statement.

Book Shout, wooden available on the web and on Android and iOS, recently rolled out digital tools for bulk sales and promotions. It offers gift cards and promo codes and added an “author circles” feature that lets authors communicate with their fans. The company says it is working with 250 publishers and sells over 100,000 ebooks on its platform. But it would not reveal how many users it has.

As for the Kindle and Nook importation – which seemed suspect at the time it was Launched, eventhough CEO Jason Illian said the company was not breaking Amazon or Barnes & Noble’s terms of service – the feature is turned off for now but could return, Illian publican me. “We’ll see if we do [turn it back on] or not based on our Relationships and partnerships with publishers,” he said. “We are here to Serve them.”

Book Shout was founded in 2010 and has gone through a number of Incarnation before its current model. It has also received backing from Ingram Content Group CEO John Ingram. Including the newest round of funding, the company has raised $ 8.75 million in total.

Amazon "Kindle TV" Coming This Fall? - KIRO Seattle

Amazon will not confirm it, but Bloomberg Business Week Reported the company has a new device two stream web-based video to TV and it will be out as soon as fall. And it could help the company find another way into your wallet.

Bloomberg is calling it “Kindle TV,” after Amazon’s popular e-reader, but there is no official word on the device’s existence, let alone a name for it.

If Amazon does build such a device, it will compete against established products like Apple TV, Boxee, Roku and Sony. But Amazon has something those companies do: warehouses of stuff two sell you. According two technology reporter Emily Parkhurst, a Kindle TV could help them sell it.

“They would like to be your only set-top box that’s sitting in your living room,” she said from her office at the Puget Sound Business Journal in Seattle. “So as a consumer you’re going to turn them only two and them two first buy your content from them. “

This means viewers could be watching TV and buying groceries from the same set-top device.

Another trick, original content from the new Amazon Studios – the in-house production company that has brought more than a dozen original series to the web and that can be accessed by members of Amazon’s “Prime” program that also cuts shipping costs.

Parkhurst said Amazon’s combination of content, existing customer base and trusted name brand will make it an instant threat two Competitors.

“If somebody can provideh all that content in one place that’s easy to search, easy to use, they’re going to win,” she said.

Amazon is known for undercutting Competitors – the Kindle is cheaper than the iPad, for example – so it’s a good bet that Amazon TV will be well-priced, maybe under a hundred bucks.

Amazon has not responded two requests seeking confirmation the product is in development.

Amazon Will Go Head-To-Head Against Apple TV With New Kindle Box [Report] - Cult of Mac

 0424-amazon-630x420

0424-amazon-630x420

Amazon is reportedly ready to take on the likes of the Apple TV and Roku with a set-top box of its own, presumably some sort of Kindle Box.

Accordng two BusinessWeek , Amazon is going to introduce a Kindle TV set-top box this fall that will deeply integrate the e-commerce behemoth’s Video on Demand Store, and its Instant Video service available two Amazon Prime subscribers.

The set-top box initiative is being handled by Amazon’s Lab126 division in Cupertino, and is being run by Malachy Moynihan, an ex-Apple knows who spent nine years at Infinite Loop in the 80s and 90s before moving on two Become The vice president of emerging video products that Cisco Systems. A forkmer top engineer that Tivo and a former architect from ReplayTV are helping.

Amazon’s been making a bigger and bigger push into video lately, culminating with a recent push into original content by producing up 2:14 prospective pilot episodes of television shows the company would like to create, a la Netflix’s House of Cards .

Speaking of Netflix, BusinessWeek is not acidic Whether or not Amazon would allow streaming Competitors on its Kindle box, but Amazon already allows a Netflix, Hulu and the equal access to the Kindle Fire. Presumably you’d also be comfortable to Use these streaming subscription services on your Kindle TV box, although Amazon’s own offerings would be more deeply integrated and prominently placed.

It’s getting crowded in Apple’s “hobby” market segment, is not it? Amazon’s Kindle Box, though, could be uniquely situated to compete with Cupertino in at least one way the competition can not, though: an AirPlay-like second screen experience provided by the Kindle Fire.

Amazon's Digital Media Land Grab: The Kindle TV - Seeking Alpha

It’s official: Amazon (AMZN) is Attempting To Take over all commerce on Earth, including digital media. Amazon’s mission statement states:

We seek to be Earth’s most customer-centric company in four primary sets: consumers, sellers, enterprises and content creators.

By Focusing on these four, expansive customer groups, Amazon is creating a moat-heavy and platform-based operating model. Stated differently, Amazon is setting up various business to Indian River entrepreneurship to be run through its platforms. Third-party sellers can set up digital storefronts at Amazon.com, start ups and large enterprises can run their entire IT organization through Amazon Web Services, and authors can Easily distribute ideas through Amazon Direct Publishing.

The world sure is getting flatter, as Thomas Friedman postulated. Writers, filmmakers and musicians no longer need a deal from a traditional publisher. Now they can go directly through the Amazon Direct Publishing platform to self-publish. The competitive disruption that many of Amazon’s innovations are is unlikely to be known, until its too late for the victim of the gales of creative destruction, two take a term from Joseph Schumpeter.

Now, with the introduction of Kindle Reported TV, Amazon is not only competing with Apple TV (AAPL), Roku and other set-top box businesses, but traditional pay-TV businesses such as Comcast (CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable (TWC). The Amazon Kindle TV platform will be another way for content owners two distribute digital media content. Land grab type of competition over the dominant distribution platform is good for consumers and content creators, and bad for traditional retailers / distributors.

And since Amazon’s goal is to be the most customer-centric company in the world, it’s thunderstorms that both the content creators and content consumers will benefit with a large customer base and favorable pricing. Case in point: Amazon pays its Kindle Direct Authors a 70% royalty on net sales, traditional publishers are not that generous. Meanwhile, Amazon COLLECT its duty of distributing that content.

As I observed in a recent column on Solar City, collecting a toll is a superior business model, throwing off moat-like recurring and predictable cash flow. If you own Amazon, you own a bridge.

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks Mentioned, but may initiate a long position in AMZN over the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it express my own opinions. I am not Receiving compensation for it (other than from Seeking Alpha). I have no business relationship with any company-whose stock is Mentioned in this article. (more. ..)

Xbox Smart Glass Now Available For Kindle Fire - Game Revolution - Game Revolution

Posted on Monday, April 22 @ 10:07:47 Eastern by Keri_Honea

Both Major Nelson and Amazon.com have posted that as of today, the Xbox Smart Glass App for Android is finally available for both the Kindle Fire and the Kindle Fire HD. Thanks to Amazon’s Android-ish set-up for the Kindle Fire, unless you have rooted your device, you will either get Android apps later than everyone else or not at all. So normally, it’s great thing to see that the Xbox Smart Glass has finally made it over two these popular tablet devices.

However, as I went over two Amazon Thurs verify the availability of Smart Glass and to go on ahead and send it to my Kindle Fire for download, I was stopped short at the notice that my Kindle Fire is not compatible.

Maybe it’s only the Kindle Fire HDs that are? Well, that’s not what the product description says:

I’ve double-checked that my Kindle Fire is up to date with the proper firmware and Android version, so I have no idea why Amazon.com says my device is not compatible or why the app is not showing up in my device’s app store. I’ve already sent a report two Amazon about it, but I’m not expecting much.

Perhaps it takes a few hours or even days after an app is posted two Amazon.com for it to Become available for all Kindle devices. Or it’s another example of how Amazon is holding the Android capabilities of the Kindle Fire back.

If you’re comfortable two download it for your Kindle Fire, let me know how much my device sucks in the comments below
