Amazon has launched its Kindle Unlimited service in India, offering access to over a million e-books for ₹199 (rupees) (£1.97) a month.
Through the e-book subscrption service, customers in India will have access to books by authors including Chetan Bhagat, Robin Sharma, Deepak Chopra and J K Rowling. They will also be able to use Kindle features such as Whispersync and customer reviews.
Sanjeev Jha, director of Kindle Content, said: "With Kindle Unlimited, we're making reading more accessible than ever. For less than the average price of one hardcover bestseller, we've made the best digital library in the world available to every corner of India. Whether you like thrillers, romance novels, sci-fi or children's books, with Kindle Unlimited everyone will have the chance to discover not only well-established but also new authors of every genre."
Customers can sign up for six months for ₹999 (£9.89) or 12 months for ₹1799 (£17.81) and during this month, readers can get their first month’s subscription for ₹99 (£0.98).
Amazon introduced Kindle Unlimited in the UK last September, with many titles included in the promotion against publishers’ wishes. Kindle Unlimited has now been launched in several other countries, including Germany, Brazil and Canada.
