Amazon Goes Live With New Publishing Venture Kindle Scout – Paste Magazine

Amazon is making a big move once again.

The retail giant is launching Kindle Scout, a self-publishing crowdsourcing campaign that's exclusive for their Kindle products. With Kindle Scout, aspiring authors can submit their works to Kindle Scout for readers to explore. Readers can then vote as to whether or not Kindle Press, Amazon's e-book publishing company, should actively pursue them as a published e-book author. The first few pages of titles will be on Kindle Scout for 30 days, and readers can nominated up to three books they'd like to see published during this time. At the end of the period, Kindle Scout staff will look at the top nominated books and make the decision as to whether or not to pursue publication from there.

Amazon also announced that how many nominations a book gets won't be public knowledge: "We want to make sure each book gets a fair shot and don't want the number of nominations a book receives to influence other readers. We want readers to weigh in with their individual preferences." Readers who vote for a winning book, though, will get a free copy of the title.

You can learn more about "reader-powered publishing" over on Amazon's Kindle Scout site.
