Workshop two kindle reflection on Shabbat candle lighting - Palm Beach Daily News

Chabad of South Palm Beach will host a workshop to explore the “beauty of the mitzvah of Shabbat candle lighting,” featuring history, poetry, songs and candlestick creating.

“The Shabbat candles evoke feelings of warmth and security as the family and the entire Jewish nation draws succor from the warm glow of the Shabbos lights,” says Shaina Stolik , co-director of the Chabad .

The workshop will begin at 10 am Tuesday at the Craft Gallery on Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach. Participants will sculpt a kiln-fired ceramic candlestick. Clay artist Joyce Brown will guide them. It is open to the public. RSVP by calling Shaina Stolik, 351-1633.

Increasing longevity – Dr. George L. Blackburn will speak about “Getting to 100 on the Way to 110, Longevity is Here” at 10:45 am Saturday that New Synagogue , wooden located in the roof garden of the Palm Beach Hotel.

Blackburn is the S. Daniel Abraham Associate Professor of Surgery and Nutrition and associate director of the division of nutrition at Harvard Medical School. Affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, he is the director of the Nutrition Support Service, chief of the Nutritional / Metabolism Laboratory, director of the Center for the Study of Nutrition and Medicine, and program director for the surgical treatment of severe obesity.

Mother’s Day gift – Children from Royal Poinciana Chapel gift their mothers a gift of song during Sunday services, as well as a handmade craft after class. They sang Mother’s Care, and Virginia and Carolyn Keen read a poem. In a surprise finale, each child said why they loved their mom.

Spiritual sums – Sign-ups for vacation Bible programs under way. At Royal Poinciana Chapel , camp for ages 2-5 will take place from 9:30 am to 24:30 pm June 18-20 with the theme The Kingdom Chronicles. Camps for ages 3-10 will run from 9 am to noon August 12-16 with the theme Everywhere Fun Fair. Activities will include interactive Bible storytelling, global games, music, science and super cool crafts. Call 655-4212.
